It's official. Dallin Thomas and I have been married for one year! Though I loved the newlywed phase, I was honestly quite glad to hit the year mark because it really feels like we've been married forever! I guess now that we've known each other for almost 6 years, my memories of marriage and dating kind of bleed together.
People ask, "What have you learned in the past year?" as if looking for some profound lesson we have gained...but honestly, I can't think of anything earth-shattering in that regard. It's just been a blast to live with my best friend! He has gotten me through the best and the worst of times.
My Aunt Mayme did an excellent job of wrapping up the top tier of our wedding cake so that it would not go freezer burnt. Realizing that it would be difficult to transfer our cake across state borders and still keep it frozen for our actual anniversary, we decided to do it a month early. That way not only my family could participate, but Dallin's sister Danielle could too! She was unable to attend the wedding last year because of Matt's white coat ceremony in Barbados, so I was so excited to break out the wedding gown and have a year-late celebration with her! We just had to make sure Oakley the Bernese mountain dog didn't steal the cake from either the counter or from toddler Maverick.
We still couldn't get ourselves to do an intense cake-smashing-in-the-face...that dress was just too expensive!
The top tier was chocolate peanut butter. Dallin and I got no more than two bites of our wedding cake at our wedding before it was gone. That was the tier with spice cake and blackberry. We didn't even get to try the white chocolate raspberry. But honestly, I think the chocolate peanut butter was the best!
For our actual anniversary, we both had work. Originally we were going to be in Germany, but what can you do when there is a global pandemic? So instead we drove to the nearest Cheesecake Factory, ordered take-out and found a cute little park with lots of baby ducks. Then we sat in the grass underneath a tree and talked for an hour! Of course, now that we have been watching an episode of The Last Kingdom every night, we could not break our streak.
I love my Dallin!
