Wedding 2/5: The Temple
After a relaxed morning, it was finally time to get ready. I carefully applied shimmery bronze and gold eye makeup before my hairdresser Lisa came to curl my hair. At long last it was time to drive to the temple with my mom, and for the first time all day it hit me that I was getting married. The butterflies began flittering in my stomach. "Did you feel nervous on your wedding day?" I asked my mom, though it wasn't so much nerves as it was excitement and disbelief that this long-awaited day had finally come. We turned on the radio, though I worried that 7 Rings would be stuck in my head during the ceremony. This was it! It was May 11th! Heck, I remember thinking in my teal gown at Senior Prom {a whopping four years earlier} that Dallin could be the one. Now--
"There he is," my mom said, as we were walking up to the Gilbert Temple. Dallin was walking with his dad and his groomsman {also named Dallin}, looking oh-so-handsome in his suit. I shoved my bag into my mom's arms and ran towards Dallin to give him a hug. "Careful of your makeup!" he warned with a laugh, right before I would have plowed my face into his chest. As we went up to the front desk, my mom realized she had lost her wallet and went searching for it while Dallin and I sat, jittery, in the waiting room. A woman pulled us into an office to begin the official paperwork, and I realized it would be the last time I signed my name as Katherine Elizabeth Lundgreen! Then they separated us to get clothed.
At last it was time for the ceremony. The first segment was just the two of us, and as we awaited the second segment, we were given time to sit next to each other holding hands in the most beautiful, peaceful room of the temple. Then we were led into a room with at least 60 of our loved ones. The officiator, a friend of my grandmother, spoke the perfect words before the official sealing began. As we were sealed for time and all eternity, both Dallin and I teared up as our gazed flickered between the officiator and each other. I'll admit, I cried a lot. I couldn't help it. I was so happy. As the ceremony finished, the officiator referred to me as Dallin's wife, and I let out a yelpy gasp that made the whole room chuckle warmly. Then we hugged everyone. When we saw Jerrae's tears, Dallin and I both started crying all over again. More like sobbing for me.
I always got so impatient waiting for my friends outside of the temple, but now that it was my turn to get ready, I took my time. My mom helped me button up my wedding gown with a crochet hook and recurled my hair at the vanity as I fixed up my makeup. Dallin and I held hands as we saw each other again; we hid behind the wall so no one could see us whenever the doors opened. Then we made our grand entrance before a huge crowd of family and friends, all cheering as I held up my flowers and then Dallin dip-kissed me. My bridesmaids, adored in glittery gold gowns, all looked stunning, and the groomsmen looked snazzy in their bowties and suspenders. Here were all these people we cared about, here to celebrate our union, and we were so happy. Then pictures began.
