My parents took a spontaneous trip from Gilbert to Provo to watch my brother Adam's last BYU rugby game, but less than 24 hours after arriving, they got back on road for a short family trip 3 hours south in Moab. The idea was to get some sunshine, and though the forecast was wrong and it ended up snowing in the desert, the trip was worth it.
Beckham and I carpooled with my sister Olivia and her husband Tanner, and we shared an AirBnB with my parents, Adam and his wife Hannah. After checking in, we walked around the shops at downtown Moab, ate some of the best pizza I have ever had at Antica Forma, and topped it off with fries and ice cream at a fifties diner. While at the diner, my dad held Beckham on his arm and pretended to fly him around like an airplane, and Beckham almost got nailed by the server rushing around.
The next morning we went to the national park early. I had tried to get into Arches twice in years past, and this was the first time I was actually able to get in. The uncles took turns carrying Beckham in the wrap, and we hiked round trip to Delicate Arch. For the second hike, my mom volunteered to watch Beckham as he napped in the car while the rest of us hiked to another arch. With the wind chill, Olivia, Tanner and I were happy to rejoin my mom in the car, and we drove back for hot chocolate and the hot tub. Adam, Hannah and my dad returned several hours later, and after eating Lundgreen-style burgers we played games and video chatted my missionary brother Eric in Armenia.
The second morning, we stopped for another couple views at the national park before heading back home. When Beckham had a meltdown in the car, Olivia solved it by giving him an empty water bottle to crinkle. All better.
