Urness’s decided to break it in for Thanksgiving. The kitchen isn’t
quite ready for use, so they ordered Thanksgiving dinner from Harmon’s. After dinner we watched Home Alone, made gingerbread houses, and went on a walk around the brand new park, where Rachelle went down the mega slide and Parley and Gracie nearly spun themselves sick. While the family was in town we also did a VR skydiving experience and celebrated Rachelle's birthday. I made the fanciest cake I have ever made and was quite proud of myself for it!
Life with Baby Becks:
- huge smiles now!
- started sleeping way better at 10 weeks after a period of taking an hour and a half to go down; now able to go down in 15 minutes and also started taking naps in his bed. We started listening to xylophone pop lullabies to calm him.
- some out-loud giggles in his sleep (as opposed to breathy or silent giggles)
- still sleeping on side but tolerating back time on play mat with help.
- figured out how to suck his thumb a little better, although still often just chewing on it
Since as long as we were dating, Dallin joked about me dressing up as a whale and him dressing up as a fisherman were I to be pregnant over Halloween. Luckily, I was not pregnant over Halloween, so we had to come up with another costume idea. Dallin always said that newborns are little potatoes, so of course we had to dress up as potato farmers and their potato. I drew the Famous Idaho Potatoes logo on a sack and my mom made potatoes out of cotton and nylons, and voila, Beckham was a potato.
My cousin Paige and I had our babies two and a half weeks apart. I can't state enough how great it is to have someone who is also experiencing first-time motherhood. We've met up to take our babies on walks around the neighborhood and around the BYU art museum and campus. We both were very excited to go to Cornbellies, the local fall festival with its corn maze, pumpkin patch, haunted house and everything else fall-related. We definitely overestimated how much we could do with little babies; the gravel around the festival made it very hard to push strollers and the corn maze didn't even allow them. So we joked that the festival tickets were the price for cute pictures at the pumpkin patch and agreed that next year will be a lot more fun.
One weekend we joined my brother Adam and his wife Hannah for a drive along the Alpine Loop. The road was packed with other people also hoping to see the fall foliage, so we brought snacks and enjoyed the slow ride through the mountains.
This fall we also celebrated Dallin's birthday (9/22) and mine (10/10) with low key get-togethers at our home with family and friends. Beckham loved to stare up at the shiny birthday balloons which were strung up for over a month. Dallin told me he was going to make me a cake, but when the evening of the birthday party rolled around and he hadn't yet made the cake, I was very confused. Then Olivia walked in with a beautiful spice cake Dallin had hired her to make!

Some pictures from weeks 4-8 with Beckham. Around week 7 he started rolling to his right side if you laid him down on his left. Not long after he rolled out of tummy time.
Beckham was 5 weeks old when he joined us for his first hike. Dallin strapped him into the Ergobaby carrier and we trekked through the gold and auburn terrain. For the first hike, we found a trail in Provo Canyon. He slept most of the time, but once we hit our halfway mark he got hungry and we stopped to feed him a bottle. All three hikes we did this fall were around 4 miles round trip, which felt incredible after the sluggishness of late pregnancy.
Our next hike was Stewart Falls.
Our third hike with Beckham Boy was Circle All Peak up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Towards the end of this hike, we were warned about a mama moose and her baby laying on the trail, so we had to do some offroading to keep a safe distance.
