Summer is here.
I day dream in the midst of unbelief of how wonderfully fast it came... There is so much to happen! So far I know that I am...
*Going to Cali next week with the fam to stay with my cousins (Uncle Dave and Aunt Sheryl's fam) at their condo
*Going to the Time to Blossom camp at the Hilton Hotel in June with Rachel, Kylie, and Taylor (including listening to famous people such as John Bytheway, having fun night parties like PJ and fashion show parties, etc.) ~no boys allowed!!!~
*Having our cousins from Wyoming (Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Caprice's fam) over at our house
*Girl's Camp
I also want to...
*Have a complete tour of the spectacular state of Arizona
*Go to San Clemente to see Grandpa Paul and Nana Hanny, the Skousens, and Danielle (pretty sure it's a no)
*Etc... etc... etc...
Summer last year basically felt like "blah". I want this year to be different. I want to have almost a schedule...
*Practice piano every day
*Do chores every day (crazy, right? I HATE a dirty house.)
*Swim every day so that I can get blonder hair and a nice tan
*Read for at least an hour every day
*Write in my journal at least twice a week
*Blog every day
To make some money...
*Babysit
*Teach a writing/art class for kids, maybe 7-10
I want to accomplish many things as well...
*Be able to play every one of the Phantom of the Opera songs (and not made easy-the actual things!!! I already have one down.)
*Read at least twenty books
*Be a better artist
*Be a better photographer
*Be a better singer
*Finish Perilous Words (see http://luvwriting.blogspot.com/) and start some other ones
I want to have lots of fun with friends...
*Email a prompt every two weeks to everybody to write/share fictional stories (I did that last year, except I only did two the whole summer, and it was so cool to see where everybody's imaginations took them!)
*Have late nights at our houses or at the drive-inns
*Have sleep-overs with our cousins (the ones we are going to Cali with)
*Go to the mall
*Etc...
I have no clue if this will all be able to happen... but I can hope that it will...

If I had known that I would get the stomach flu on Saturday...
I would have done my homework on Friday before going to see Letter's to Juliet with the girls.
Yes, I held it off. I just figured that I would do it on Saturday since I had to study for finals anyway. We invited a bunch of friends from the ward to see Letters to Juliet, since all the boys were away for Father and Sons'. (It is a very cute movie, BTW...) Then I woke up on Saturday feeling sick. And guess what... Mom had to leave at 6:45 to go to this all-day dog thing, and the boys wouldn't coem home till one. Great day to start throwing up. But seriously... maybe that isn't sarcastic.... since finals are next week and now I know I'll be fully better by the time Monday comes around. It's funny, because I thought I was safe. Rachel and Adam were sick last Sunday, and Olivia on Tuesday. Shoudn't the sickness have gone away? I am not throwing up today, but I woke up feeling weak and had to skip the Hila Valley Temple dedication (there was a youth morning side at 6:15 this morning at the actual site, and then the actual dedication was broadcasted at the much-closer stake center.) I was sad about that. Luckily, there is still the Gilbert Temple to be built, and most likely I won't be sick the day that temple is dedicated. I feel better, so I guess I have no excuse to keep putting off that difficult math review packet and the loads of studying... Wish me luck... School's out in 3 1/2 days...

This quarter alone, I have had seven projects between my Honors Language Arts class and social studies.
Let me just list all the events in order:
1) An interview of my dad and his mom (who lives in Utah) about TV and radio in their lives, with a bunch of specific questions {LA}
2) A scrapbook of World War I with pictures and many prompts we have been answering over the semester pretending we were soldiers (just like the Civil War journals in the second quarter) {SS}
3) A poster with a couple of graphs and s question-n-answer section all about the Holocaust {LA}
4) A poem written and illustrated by Jewish children in the Holocaust in their camps, memorized {LA}
5) AIMS (Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards) testing, with one writing section, three math sections, and three reading sections
6) English testing, to determine who will be in 8th grade Language Arts and who will be in English
7) A diary illustrated and bound together, with at least one-page responses to prompts about the Holocaust and the teleplay version of The Diary of Anne Frank, which we read together in class {LA}
8) A poster with facts and picture or drawings that illustrates life in the Roaring Twenties {SS}
9) A biography (Joan of Arc for me)- reading and passing an AR test on the person, memorizing a one minute speech that gives certain background information, typing up three questions on three-by-five index cards to give to other people in my group and being able to answer them specifically, and a costume
Can you believe I survived it all??? Now I just have finals during the last week... but until then...
WHOO-PHHHEEEE!!!!
We were taking a walk in the cool evening. Sophie leaned to pick up a pinecone, then said, "Coconut! BONK!" She hit the "coconut" pinecone on her head.

Welcome to Kate of the Desert! I've shared my life stories here since 2008. Here you may find the dramatic musings of an 11-year-old, the romanticized tales of a high schooler, the adventures of a young adult living in Hawaii and Europe, the journeys of marriage and motherhood, and all the ups and downs in between.
