I am forever intrigued by the human capacity for creativity. Honestly though, the combinations that college students come up with despite such limited resources at the cafeteria are just brilliant. Or perhaps our standards have dropped, because when else would eighteen-year-olds be mixing vanilla ice cream with fruity pebbles?
In all seriousness, some of my greatest joys in this independent stage of my life stem from those moments when I'm struck by a new idea for my novel, or when I create a piece of artwork, or when I'm barefoot and outdoors searching for beauty in some otherwise unnoticeable object. I am constantly pondering how I can creatively innovate the path I am headed on-- my biggest fear is to slip into a stereotypical lifestyle lacking color and variety. Perhaps all of this is a little different than I expected; I write oh-so-many essays and I didn't magically turn from introvert to extrovert and drama doesn't end in high school and I'm not out on glorious adventures every single weekend. But I am working as hard as I absolutely can, enjoying the company of those who are real and always pushing the limits of my mind. Slow down, I remind myself, and enjoy the loveliness of little things so you don't get overwhelmed by the big picture.
For the first time in my life it's a week and a half from my birthday and I'm not rounding up to that age. For now, I'm still 18, and time can't take that from me just yet.
