After the wedding, we only had a little bit of time to spend with my parents and Sophie before they returned to Arizona. We were graced with a last bit of spring weather and visited the Alpine Poppy Fields, which had just started to bloom. Beckham was enthralled by the big, vibrant flowers! I wore the same dress I wore a year ago when I visited the poppies pregnant -- this time, the walk was substantially easier.
My cousin Mickelle got married the first weekend in June, but I'll admit, aside from a few I snapped with my baby, I don't have any pictures of the wedding. Me, my parents and siblings were busy helping Mickelle's family cater the food for the reception at a beautiful indoor-outdoor venue overlooking the valley. We put together a charcuterie board Olivia-style, and boy did I gain a lot of respect for my sister Olivia who frequently caters charcuterie boards at weddings with no one but her husband to help her. Olivia wasn't at Mickelle's wedding, but instead there were probably ten of us various relatives bustling about all night making sure the board was stocked with food. By the end of the night, my parents sent me home because I was full aches-and-chills sick with mastitis (for the second time). Moment of note for me, as a mom, was when we were trying to take group pictures after the wedding, but it was past Beckham's nap time, so when everyone did a quick cheer for the bride and groom for a photo, Beckham was startled and immediately started crying, and all the dozens of people grouped up for the photo said, "Awww!"
Some other (very important) things that have happened this May/June:
**Dallin's stepbrother Cooper and his wife Kaeli welcomed their first baby, Leroy!
**Dallin and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary! We enjoyed a lovely dinner at Toscano followed by a play at the Hale Theater.
8 months meant some big achievements: Beckham learned to crawl! He was first inspired by his mobile cousins and began trying to hop his two legs forward. Then, he figured out how to do a few crawls while on a silky blanket. And then, it all clicked and he was suddenly zooming around the house! It was a stressful few days before baby gates of the correct width came in the mail. I was so scared Beckham was going to make a beeline for the stairs, because all the barricades I made out of boxes and pillows could not contain him in the living room. He always goes straight for the cat food/water.
Currently, Beckham uses his head as a battering ram against anything that stands in his way. He also uses his head first when he rolls, flopping down from his hands and knees.
**edit July 10: I forgot to blog when it actually happened, but believe it was after hitting eight months that we finally made progress on his sleep. I would give him a "dream feed" before I went to bed, and then he would typically wake up one other time during the night. This was so much better than the every ~2 hour wakings. His sleep varies since I dropped the dream feeds, and now that we've been sick for almost two weeks I think I will have to re-sleep train him.
We got rained/hailed on during our walk to the local museum.
