Update #1: Family in Town

Tomorrow Dallin will return home from his fishing trip in Canada, and it will be the first time we've had with just the two of us in two-and-a-half weeks. He has had no reception since Monday, so I was thrilled to get a call tonight. Excited as I am to keep him all to myself, it's been so fun to finally have our own apartment so that family can stay with us! First, Dallin's sister Olivia stayed with us for the weekend before her French camp started. {His nickname for her is Obliviationatory, in case you were wondering, just as his name for Grace is Greasage.} We long boarded 5 miles down the Provo Canyon, and I got her and Dallin hooked on Stranger Things. Of course, this required buying speakers. We were very grateful to be given a really nice TV by one of Dallin's former roommates; we offered money for it, but he wouldn't take any! The screen has 4 missing pixels, but we'll get used to that! We went to DI and rigged together a speaker, a converter and one of the few functioning DVD players to determine if it would work. The store got to enjoy the sound of School of Rock and Dallin dancing to The Backyardigans. When we were in line, we realized that the previous owner had spilled candle wax, but Dallin was determined and spent an hour scraping it out before realizing we had also forgotten the right cord. Whoops. We enjoyed a full breakfast including chocolate chip pancakes and stayed up way too late watching the show on a smaller device.

Then, our two mothers drove up our wedding presents and spent a few days with us when we weren't at work. We met up with an old family friend from Boston, who now lives here and has started her own little farm, despite always disliking animals before now. All the animals are babies now {she wants to raise them to love humans} and they are decked with sparkly bows and dyed fur! They all cuddled in our laps, and when our friend left briefly, they all started crying for her! So precious!
Lastly, Dallin's dad's family joined us briefly, and we looked at houses and had a game night with family friends.
Update #2: Work
I absolutely love my job. I work full time with a company that serves people with disabilities, but my particular job is with a summer program for 20 individuals aged 7-21. Most have autism. It's certainly not the easiest job I've ever taken, and I've definitely come home with bruises, but it is seriously the most fun AND rewarding work! I love those kids SO SO much, I literally cannot express that enough. Every day we take the 12-passenger vans and pick up the clients at their houses across Utah County, and then we head to an activity. I typically drive one of the vans about 4 days a week, which I was terrified to do in the beginning but actually found isn't bad at all! On Tuesdays we play at the splash pad and on Wednesdays we got to the movie theater, but on other days we go to parks, museums, farms, board game cafes, libraries and many other exciting places. My favorite thing is watching clients run towards the van in the morning because they are so excited to come!
Update #3: Living Together
 |
| Dallin woke me up to breakfast in bed. |
I am so grateful that Dallin and I had a week to ourselves for our honeymoon because we really don't have that much time together. Because I leave for my job at 7:25 AM and don't get back till 4:30ish, and because Dallin has a new internship plus his Texas Roadhouse job with shifts starting at 4, we often won't see each other until any time between 10:30 and midnight. Sometimes, I just text Dallin to wake me up when he gets home so we can have thirty minutes together.
In the beginning, I tried to make dinners really late so that we could eat together, but it just didn't work. I have always valued having family meal time, but making myself wait for hours to eat was scarily triggering, and Dallin was NOT going to allow it anymore. He is a SAINT and has been so good at checking that I eat as much as I should, when I should.
Honestly, we keep trying to find time to have dates or do something fun, but then we are so tired that we end up watching a movie, if we aren't too busy for that anyway. And that is ok! I love falling asleep cuddling with my sweet husband, and I love even more that happiness that washes over me when I wake up and find him next to me. It's still new, and I still can't get enough of it! Dallin sleep talks a lot, which is funny because he'll sit up and I think that he's talking to me, but then he'll just spew nonsense.
Tomorrow, please come faster so that I can see him again!
