When we found out that he Samuelsons' family friend, Natalie, was visiting Utah from Georgia, we couldn't miss the chance to go see her. We drove up to where she was staying in Park City and spent time catching up before taking out the stroller and walking around downtown together. Dallin was astounded by the wealth of Park City. Shortly after noticing the expensive price tag on a coat and commenting, "Who would buy that?" he held the door for another customer on his way out and realized that man had just bought that exact coat. We enjoyed lunch at a cute bakery, and sweet Natalie surprised us by buying Beckham a Warmie, a plushie that can be put in the microwave like a heating pack. He loves it, and it has been the perfect companion for him to snuggle with when we walk in cold weather.
My software engineer husband has been working really hard to launch his own product, Sidenote. With his beta launch deadline coming up fast, there wasn't much I could do to support him aside from keeping the house distraction-free, so that's what I did. At 4 PM I had the idea to fly home to AZ, and by 11:30 AM the next day Beckham and I had landed. We stayed for 8 days, not even buying return tickets until Dallin felt confident he could launch soon. Beckham and I had a blast visiting not just my family, not just Dallin's family, but all the critters as well!
At the Urness house were the three chickens, two horses, two cats and the new puppy; at the Samuelson house were the three dogs and three cats; and at the Lundgreen house were the three dogs and the litter of puppies born by C-section the day before we went back to Utah. I'm sad I missed Beckham's reaction seeing the new pups--my dad said he squealed with excitement.
In addition, I was grateful to spend more time with my Grandma Lundgreen, who is currently living at my parents'. At 93, with her rapidly deteriorating health and worsening dementia, she takes turns every month living at my parents' and living at my Uncle Dave and Aunt Sheryl's, and she has hospice care. I love how much she loves Baby Beckham! When I told Grandma what my mom had said over text, that the dog had had 8 pups, Grandma was so excited and teased Beckham, "Did you hear that? You have 8 new cousins!"
One of the nights we went with my grandma, parents and aunt and uncle to Downtown Gilbert. Grandma had her wheelchair, and we enjoyed dinner and desert at famous outdoor Topo while Beckham watched all the cars whoosh past.
Another day my mom and I took Beckham to my favorite restaurant from my childhood, Rainforest Cafe. When my dad asked if Beckham was a little young for it, my mom replied, "Well Katie was grinning from ear to ear the whole time, so that's all the matters!" I'll admit I was a lot more excited about it than Beckham...and of course he didn't show the same level of excitement until he saw my mom's Swig cup as we were getting back in the car.
Trips like this definitely make me wish I lived closer to all of Beckham's grandparents. I'm glad we're only a short flight away.

We almost survived the flight home without incident...until Beckham chugged a whole bottle and then upchucked most of it back up onto my pants.

Some other 5-month behaviors:
- Trying to eat toes
- Giggling during peekaboo
- Splashing in the bath
- Trying to do sit-ups — just sits in a crunch for a long time
- Assisted walking where we hold him under the armpits and he excitedly marches forward, especially towards the cats
- Putting his hand in my mouth when eating or when I'm rocking him to sleep
- Putting EVERYTHING in his mouth
- Showing interest everything when we go on walks, especially cars
- Exploring his own face, such as sucking in his lip or sticking out his tongue

After 6 years of living in Utah, Dallin finally bought himself the Sundance ski pass. He kept insisting that I join him one day so I could learn how to snowboard, and I'll be honest--I was terrified and always said "maybe another time." My primary excuse was that I didn't want to leave Beckham all day, which was a valid concern for me. So Dallin called up his mom, someone we both trust very much, to fly in town from AZ and babysit Beckham while we went snowboarding. We all went to the store together to find me cute snowboarding getup.
Dallin's dad and stepmom happened to be in town the same weekend and decided to join us at Sundance. Dallin thought that, because I picked up long boarding pretty easily as an adult, I would be able to pick up snowboarding just as easily (neither of us love skiing, but Dallin LOVES snowboarding). I went down the bunny hill three times before we decided it was time to try a real run. After one or two times down the green run, I was apprehensive to keep going. But then we went down a blue run, the "Maverick," and I was shocked when it was actually pretty fun! We the Maverick a few times and my husband and in-laws kept complimenting me for doing so well for a first timer. I was very proud of myself for not falling down the whole run. At this point I was pretty hungry, but instead of going down to the main lodge for food, we took multiple lifts up to the restaurant at the very top of the mountain. By the time we arrived, I hurt all over from biffing it multiple times and was really exhausted from all the runs we had to take to get there. Although the food restored my energy, being at the top of the mountain had me REALLY freaked out. It took a lot for me just to start back down the mountain again, and to not throw up from everything I just ate. I was quickly realizing that the reason I liked the Maverick run versus the first green runs or the blues we were doing now was because the Maverick was super wide, with no risk of me accidentally falling off a cliff. Now I was facing both blue and green runs that were very narrow with steep drop-offs. I'll admit I was a complete wreck. When we got to a wide area on the middle of the mountain I finally had to stop and cry it out. I had forgotten that I'm actually really scared of heights when I'm not hiking, and I had flashbacks to being a teenage cheerleader at the top of a stunt and feeling so scared and unsafe. I'll just say I was beyond relieved to finally make it to the bottom of the mountain and get back in the car after so many hours trying this new sport.
I had been so embarrassed a lot of the day for falling so much and later getting so scared and emotional. But I'm grateful for my in-laws for being so supportive. Dallin was a great coach and would even hold my arms and guide me while he snowboarded backwards down the mountain!
