Happy Labor Day. With a day off, Mom and Dad sped off to the lake and left us kids to fend for ourselves. After making raspberry sorbet {because, when the raspberries are on sale 4 quarts for $1, Dad buys 36}, I took the kids to see The Croods since Mom had promised them that I would. I didn't totally want to, but I drove them there anyway cause they had obediently done their chores. At least started them.
It was kinda bad luck all combined. The movie was at 11:45, so I tried to leave at 11. But, of course, I then couldn't find my license since Mom took it out of its usual spot. Then the kids were slow to get in the car, we hit every red light, and I somehow managed to take two wrong turns. By the time we got there, the line was probably a quarter mile long, so we waited in the AZ heat. Finally there were only two people in front of us before we could buy our tickets.
"Attention! The Croods is now sold out!"
Really people? Really? There were several movies I'd been dying to see, but of course the kids didn't want to see those. So I ushed them inside the mall.
I'm happy to announce that it ended up being a good time. We pretty much just screwed around and used the money for the movie tickets to buy them icecream and a ride on the carousel. The kids smiled goofily as they tromped around the playground, faked terror on the elevator, posed with the Chick-fil-A cow, devoured samples from See's Candy, and desperately averted their eyes from Victoria's Secret. I pretty much felt like the best sister ever when Sophie took my hand and said, "You're so nice Katie."
