Birthday Girls

Rachel and Liv are our December babies.  For their birthdays, which fall immediately after Christmas, we followed our tradition of booking a hotel in Scottsdale.  We shopped around in the holiday crowds, watched murder cases on TV, and then got in the hot tub and listened to a suburban mom trying to pick a fight with a twenty-year-old army marine about marijuana. Her teenage kids and husband rolled their eyes. "Moooooommm, stop!"
In addition, our family enjoyed dinner at the Teppanyaki grill, something that my parents have done since they started dating. Like always, the waiters stuck giant dragon masks on the girls heads and sang a version of "Happy Birthday" with an off-beat drum. We've been there enough times for birthdays that sometimes randomly throughout the year I'll hear one of my parents singing that version of the song.
