A Holly Jolly Christmas
Dallin and I slept over at his mom's house and arose bright and early to open presents. I don't mean 5 AM bright-and-early, like we probably tried when we were kids, but 7, which felt early enough for a household of mostly-adults. First, Danielle and Matt helped baby Maverick toddle down the stairs to see his antique airplane, and then the rest of us followed.
Initially, he wasn't quite as excited as everyone else.
Jordie filled our stockings with functional items like socks and toothbrushes, and then most of me/Dallin and Matt/Danielle's presents were clever-stashed bundles of cash! Dallin and I received $600! Thank you, Samuelsons! As college students paying for expensive things like medical bills and grad school applications, money was seriously a great gift to receive!
In addition, my family sent me and Dallin's presents over to the Samuelson home so we could still open them on Christmas Eve. I received AirPods, a beautiful pink coat, a rose gold jewelry box, and other great gifts! My parents got Dallin a curved computer monitor, and I complemented that gift which an LED gaming headset, keyboard, and mouse. Thank you family!
One of the funnest moments of the morning was watching Jordie unwrap her gift from Jim. He wrote a poem talking about her turning 50 this year, and by the way he talked about giving her something to make people turn their heads, I thought it was going to be plastic surgery or something, haha! She blushed as she pulled out a pair of panties, and then cried out in shock as she unfolded the lace to find a set of car keys! She ran outside and was stunned to find a brand new convertible!
At 11, my family came over, and all of us enjoyed Jim's homemade ebelskivers. Dallin told Eric that his record was 18, so Eric immediately decided to beat that record. Eric was feeling sick by the time he accomplished his goal of 19, but then Jim said, "My record is 24!" Eric started to sweat as he reached for the plate, and then he gave up at 21. Ew.
Then we headed over to the Urness home, where we opened up pajamas with the biggest surprise yet: a trip to Disneyland!
Rachelle made crepes, and we spent the rest of the day watching 80's Christmas movies, opening Goodwill gift, playing with Danny's 1970's Star Wars toy which he hadn't seen since he was a kid, and otherwise enjoying each other's company.
In the evening, before bed, Dallin and I read Luke 2 together. It wouldn't be Christmas without reading the story of our Savior!
