When we got home, Arlo was ecstatic to see us. I picked him up and wondered why his fur was all wet. We stepped onto the rug--it was soaked, as was the back of the couch. Turns out during the rainstorm the window well of our basement apartment filled up and spilled in through the window. Our kind elderly neighbor had her sons bail water out since we were gone. Now, a day later, we still have our couches flipped upside down and half our rug propped over chairs to dry.
Quick Trip to Vegas
We got a text from Rachelle asking if we would like to surprise Dallin's dad by showing up to his mounted shooting tournament. We figured why not! The next night after work/school, we took the 6 hour drive to Vegas. Danny was quite surprised when we showed up at his Vegas apartment. The next morning we went to the South Point hotel/casino where we were surprised to learn there is a gigantic barn full of horses on the second floor and an arena on the third floor. Danny was prepping Stella the horse for the event. We spent the day watching him compete, and he won first place in his division! Mounted shooting is where a rider running on horseback shoots balloon targets with gunfire. It's a race to see who gets the fastest score, but for every balloon you miss or barrel you knock over you lose 5 seconds from your score.
That night Dallin and I walked around the Strip. Vegas is definitely not meant for poor people like us who can't afford the food, the clubs or the shows, but it's certainly entertaining. We slept soundly, then got up the next morning to do some sales for Dick and then drive home. On the way back as we were driving through Cedar City there were severe flash flood warnings. Dallin wanted to outrun the storm, but cops were slowing down the traffic to almost a standstill. We met up with our friends McKay and Brit at a random Wendy's along the I15, since we were heading north and they were heading south.
