I don't know how they did it. With perfect precision, the ancient Quechua people created a beautiful city with depth and purpose. Every stone is placed to stand forever, forming walls like pieces of a puzzle. Even once the Spanish invaded and trampled their way of live, the incredible architecture remained as a souvenir of time.
We spent five days in Cusco, and the elevation is so high that we had to drink mate de coca, a nasty tea made from the same leaves that make cocaine.
"Live Peru."
Amidst the Peruvian creations, there stands the Spanish statue of Christ, tall and pure and white.
The Quechua people are proud of their heritage. Even if the empire stands no longer, the memory lives on, and they celebrate that memory gratefully.
