Girls' Camp 2011 was from June 26th to June 29th. The theme was Seek His Light and Shine.
I was a third year. We thought it was pretty funny, because the girls in my addy were Katie, Kylie, Kenzie, Christie, Courtney. (And then there was our YCL's, Brittany and Sydney, my mom as an advisor, and Sister Masyk who was our fabulous camp director.) I love these girlies, but they unfortunately were in a different addy, being second years.
This was one of the activities that our ward did. The YCL's hid, and we did a "Scavenger Hunt." When we found them, they would tell us stories and then give us "treasures" which we afterwards used to make a bracelet.
On one of the days we did a hike. It also happened to be the day that it was 101, and for some reason our stake won't even let us wear caprice. That was fine, though. It was beautiful, with so much green surrounding us, and besides- I like a challenge!
Here is the lodge. Some of the activities we would do during the day, many of which were here, included singing with Sister Cavenee (I love that woman), crafts, and spiritual time. One of my favorite things that we did was, after we all made our own little "lantern" jars, we went to the "Sacred Grove." Then ten of the YCL's performed an amazing version of the Ten Virgins. One at a time, they would tell their part of the story, and many of them would sing. Near the end, they all got together and performed the part that we know, about the wedding and those who did or didn't have enough oil. Then everyone lit their lanterns. It was a very beautiful, spiritual experience.
Preparing for the ultimate snipe hunting....
On Thursday is when the bishoprics and the fourth years all came. We had a giant water fight, and I was grateful when, before it began, some of my school friends reprimanded me into removing my poncho. That made it so much for fun and WET! Then our ward got the chance to spend lots of time together. We played lots of games, including the one where you have to, without hands, move an Oreo from the top of your forehead into your mouth.
These girls had fun stuffing gumballs into their mouths. Whitney and Kenzie, the two on the left, ended up with 101 pieces in all! Yuck!
Group hug!
Then, of course, was the best part of all. After the whole stake going to the lodge to watch some skits and then have spiritual time (including all of the hundreds of girls standing up to sing Seek His Light and Shine), the wards split off for their own testimony meetings. The sun had slipped behind the edge of our little box canyon, leaving no light but for the dazzling stars above. So we got in a giant circle at the edge of the woods and started. First the bishop spoke, and then he let anyone else go. It was a time for the troubles to be soothed, tears to be shed, bonds to be made. Most importantly, it was a time to forget the world and remember our purpose. The Spirit was so strong, ending our Girls Camp experience perfectly.
